You should not rely on the gods
Create your own successes
Gods will not help
Gods are not real
But I'm real
So what can the gods do?
[Google Translate was used to create the Hindi script, so I hope it isn't too terrible and at least partially understandable]
*Note: the song I used is not mine. It was edited from music I found online and I cannot find the title of it to reference here. However, the record company has found me and that is why there are advertisements on this video. I am not receiving funds from these ads, only the recording company is.
In my third year of participating in Blasphemy Day I have decided to move off of the monotheistic desert religions to tackle Hinduism. I had help from a friend of mine who is devoutly Hindu and whose family is in the priestly caste. He expressed to me that the only universal disrespect of something was to put your feet on it, since it demonstrates that the person (or thing) is less than dirt to you. This is where the blasphemy is in this video.
This week is also Navratri, a festival in honor of Hindu goddesses where we are supposed to fast and pray for success, especially in marriage. This piece of art depicts Parvati (right), who is an incarnation of Ma Durga, who is being worshiped today as part of the 9-day festival. The song that is playing is a song from the festival of Navratri, likely praising the goddess, though I cannot be sure as I have zero knowledge or understanding of Hindi as a language.
I am immensely grateful that my friend was willing to answer my questions about blasphemy in Hinduism and lead me toward the content of this video. He, of course, will not be watching this as he expressed disgust at the very idea of it, but I figured I'd give him credit all the same.
p.s. yes, I'm going to start making videos again, though I'm still in school (now in France!) and have a lot on my plate. I promised this last year too... let's see if I can live up to it this time
p.p.s. Sorry about the pock-marked feet. It takes me a long time to recover from mosquito bites and I was brutalized by one last week as I slept. I'm not used to these ninja mosquitos here on the Mediterranean and I bought my Raid plug in a day late, I guess. It's a testament to how dedicated to blasphemy that I revealed them to you in that state!
